Just 34 years after Blessed Frederic Ozanam founded the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Paris, the Society was brought to New Zealand when Fr. John Chataigner SM founded a conference in Christchurch.
It is perhaps only fitting that as part of the 150th celebrations of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in New Zealand, Christchurch will host the 2017 Annual General Meeting. The 3-day event will commence on Friday, 13th October and conclude on Sunday, 15th October.
The Annual General Meeting will be held on Friday afternoon at the Commodore Airport Hotel, finished by a buffet meal that evening.
The 150th celebration will begin on Saturday morning with registration, a welcome, and a walk down memory lane. Our afternoon will include a bus tour of Christchurch and an afternoon tea at our post-earthquake Stanmore Road shop. The day will conclude with a gala dinner for all, with special guest speakers.
Our Sunday focus will be Mass at St. Mary’s Pro-Cathedral at 10:30am. This will be concelebrated with Cardinal John Dew and Bishop Owen Dolan, who will be here for the full weekend programme.
We extend a warm invitation to all Christchurch Conference members to join us for this momentous occasion. An early indication of attendance would greatly assist our planning of this event.
