St Mary's Pro-Cathedral now part of the newly formed Cathedral Parish

On Wednesday 25th January 2012, Bishop Barry Jones suppressed some existing parishes and established new ones.

This was after an extensive period of consultation on The Provision of Sunday Mass in the Catholic Diocese of Christchurch.

This process began with Bishop Barry wanting to consider how he might provide Sunday Mass into the future.  This has partly come about due to a reducing number of clergy.  The result is larger parishes than there have been in the past, with the foundational ministry of the ordained priest ensuring the celebration of the Sunday Mass.

The new parishes are as follows: (Please note that the website is still being updated with some details of the parish changes)
