1 September 2009

You may be asking ‘what is lectio divina’? Literally this means ‘spiritual reading’.

The visit by Karl Schulz in September 2009 provided a number of opportunities to hear how we can more effectively pray with the scriptures, as the Synod on the Word of God held late last year in Rome encouraged the practice of Lectio Divina.

The process of Lectio Divina:

  • Retreat / Relax
  • Opening Prayer - Our Father
  • Read the chosen scripture
  • Reflection (2 minutes)
  • Scripture read a second time
  • Reflection (2 minutes)
  • Share a word or phrase that speaks to me
  • Scripture read a third time
  • Share why the word or phrase was chosen
  • Close in prayer - Hail Mary / Glory Be
