Bishop Meeking  is the ecclesiastical patron of Juventutem Australia which will be one of the international groups taking part in World Youth Day in Australia.

The name is taken from psalm 42 which opens the traditional Mass:"I will go to the altar of God, to God the joy of my youth (juventutem)"  This group first came together at World Youth Day, Cologne in 2005. It is made up of young people from Europe, the USA and Australasia who want to promote or deepen knowledge of the traditional liturgy of the Catholic Church.  In Australia it will be a welcoming point for young Catholics interested in engaging, even for the first time, with the Church's liturgical heritage.  The group received a strong impetus from Pope Benedict's liberalisation of the traditional Mass with his Motu Proprio, Summorum Pontificum.  There is to be a preliminary week in Melbourne. Then on 14th July the group will join all other World Youth Day participants in Sydney. As well as taking part in the general World Youth Day activities, Juventutem will provide catechesis, lectures, practical workshops in Latin and in Gregorian chant and cultural excursions in both Melbourne and Sydney. All the activities will be coordinated by the World youth Day theme: "You will be my witnesses."  Bishop Meeking will welcome the Group, celebrate some of the Masses and give a catechesis on the World Youth Day theme.  Cardinal Francis George of Chicago, Cardinal Pell of Sydney and a number of other bishops will be participating in the Juventutem programme.
